The cz versus c spelling of the sound /ts/ (like in "cats") was a
change in the spelling rules that went into effect basically right
around the first world war. Some families updated the spelling of
their surnames, or had it updated by their local clerks and
registrars; other families stuck with the old spelling, either because
they insisted on it, or because their local clerks didn't think to
change their (or anyone else's) ways. (My grandmother's family name
was Selmeczy; there's some variation in the records between -i and -y,
but it's always -cz-.) In either case, once you get back into pre-war
records, you'll need to look for the -cz- version, because that was
the correct way to spell that sound at that time. (Going back even
further, you'll start to see other variations: -tsz-, -tz-, or in
German or Latin records, -ts-.)

What religion? FamilySearch has Roman Catholic registers online for
Szabadka, with the baptisms (mostly) indexed. They also have some
Protestant and Greek Orthodox registers

unindexed and confusingly cataloged, but worth a look if you're
certain that your relatives were in Szabadka or one of the outlying
farms or settlements belonging to it. (The 1913 gazetteer lists
Kelebia as one of these.)

Speaking of confusingly cataloged material, FS also has the civil
registrations for Szabadka up to 1910
(https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/3006908). Some of the
entries are actually for handwritten indexes (which switch to
Serbo-Croatian partway through), but the register images are there,
too. The dates overlap on some of them because the local registrar had
a weird method of keeping even-numbered entries in one book and
odd-numbered ones in a separate book. I have no idea how he determined
whether any particular event was even or odd. Luckily once the
multi-entry forms were put into use, he had to abandon this insanity.
1910 is too early for finding your grandfather's register entry, but
the marriage of his parents may be there. (Marriages are at the bottom
of the catalog page. Their descriptions include the phrase "Maticna
knjiga vencanih".) It'll take some time, patience, and bandwidth --
Szabadka ain't small.
